7 generations of winemakers
From generation to generation
Jean-Baptiste Jonot (1800-1872) and Joseph Henri Jonot (1828-1904) were the first to develop the family vineyard. At that time, they primarily produced still wine. The Massif de Saint-Thierry region was then under the control of the abbot of the monastery.
At the beginning of the 20th century, phylloxera destroyed a large part of the vineyard. Only a few plots remained. It was from the 1960s onwards that the vineyard was gradually replanted in the hills. This revival was supported by the creation of the Pouillon cooperative and the rise of Champagne.
In 1978, Pierre Jonot and Christian Jonot founded the Bacchus wine company together. This later became the Champagne Christian Jonot & Fils brand in 2011.
a new era
After several years of thinking, we decided in 2020 to take the plunge and leave the cooperative. Our goal: to create our own wines and thus showcase the beauty of our terroirs.
As winegrowers rooted in tradition, just like our ancestors, we allow nature and the alchemy of the elements to speak, creating unique cuvées.
In 2023, we were proud to present our first six wines under the name Jonot Frères.
Very quickly, our cuvées found their audience. Our rosé, Émulsion, was awarded the Young Champagne Talent Prize, while our cuvée Rencontre stood out to the judges of UFC Que Choisir magazine in 2025, ranking first in all categories.
Today, our wines travel beyond our borders and are now exported as far as Japan — a recognition that means a great deal to us. The journey continues, driven by our constant desire to do even better.
OUR VINEYARD & ITS CULTIVATION
OUR TERROIRS
Our approach is прежде всего rooted in enhancing the work carried out in our vineyard. Although located close to one another, our plots offer a diversity of soils that is ideal for innovation.
Our family estate, covering nearly 5 hectares, is spread across three villages: Thil, Pouillon and Saint-Thierry. Most of our parcels are planted with Pinot Noir and Meunier, with a smaller proportion of Chardonnay, ranging from older vines (over 25 years) to younger plantings.
Each parcel is a unique terroir. In Saint-Thierry, the soils encourage the growth of expressive and powerful Pinot Noir. In Pouillon, our Meunier parcels feature a complex mix of deep chalk, with sand and silt at the surface. Finally, the sandy soils of Thil, marked by a natural salinity, allow our Chardonnay to develop with finesse and character.
These specific characteristics give our grapes a distinctive identity, which we support and enhance through carefully adapted vineyard and winemaking practices.
Our Practices
Attentive to nature and constantly seeking the best ways to express our terroirs, we adapt our work to each vine (grape variety, pruning, treatments, etc.).
Respecting the biodiversity of our vineyard is one of our main priorities. All our viticultural methods are sustainable, as demonstrated by our High Environmental Value (HVE Level 3) certification. Natural grass cover is carefully managed, we use mechanical weeding, avoid insecticides, and control fertilization through soil analysis.
This thoughtful approach allows us to control yields and preserve soil quality, enabling our vines to draw the best possible resources to produce high-quality grapes—essential for crafting our wines.
